CM Chandrababu Honours Police Martyrs, Pushes for Technology-Led Security
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, stating that their courage and commitment to public safety would always be remembered. He attended the Police Martyrs’ Memorial Day programme at the Andhra Pradesh Special Police Sixth Battalion in Amaravati–Mangalagiri on Wednesday, where he unveiled two books commemorating fallen personnel and contributed to the police memorial fund.
Naidu praised police officers for risking their lives to protect citizens and maintain public order. He highlighted their responsibilities during festivals, public gatherings and VIP security arrangements. Recalling the events of October 21, 1959, he said ten Indian police personnel laid down their lives while confronting Chinese troops in Ladakh. The day is observed annually to honour their sacrifice.
The Chief Minister said effective policing requires both courage and humanity. He instructed officers to treat everyone visiting police stations with respect and address their grievances sensitively. While victims must feel protected and confident, criminals should fear the consequences of breaking the law.
He warned against allowing political influence to protect offenders and called for stringent action against rowdy elements and individuals involved in online harassment. Crimes committed under political cover, he stressed, should not be tolerated.
Expressing concern over rising cybercrime, Naidu noted that fraudsters were cheating people through phone calls, deceptive links and messages. He urged the police to adapt their investigative methods to emerging threats and expand the use of CCTV cameras, data analytics, drones and artificial intelligence (AI).
He said successful policing should focus not only on solving crimes but also on preventing them. He expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh could become a national leader in technology-driven policing.
Naidu also underlined the connection between law and order, investment and employment, stating that a secure environment encourages businesses to invest. He commended the Andhra Pradesh Counter Intelligence Department for detecting conspiracies threatening national security.
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, Chief Secretary Sai Prasad and DGP Harish Kumar Gupta attended the event.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Special Protection Force organised a memorial programme at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur. Officers, police sportspersons and approximately 350 personnel paid homage to fallen colleagues. Assistant Commandants Mallikarjuna Rao, T. K. Chari, K. Ramesh and S. Eswara Rao, along with other officials, participated in the programme.
