Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought the Centre’s support for a series of major infrastructure, irrigation, transport and education projects that the state government considers crucial for Telangana’s next phase of growth.

The meeting took place after the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting, during which the Chief Minister presented a detailed roadmap of projects aimed at strengthening connectivity, boosting industrial development and improving public infrastructure across the state.

Among the key issues discussed was the utilization of Godavari river waters , which the state government views as critical for meeting future irrigation and drinking water requirements. Revanth Reddy requested the Prime Minister’s intervention in facilitating discussions with the Maharashtra government to create a conducive framework for the effective use of Godavari waters, a move that could significantly enhance Telangana’s long-term water security.

The Chief Minister also pressed for central approval and financial participation in the proposed Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project. Telangana has prepared plans to expand the metro network through seven corridors covering 122.9 kilometres , with an estimated investment of ₹38,595 crore . The expansion is expected to improve urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion and support the rapid growth of Hyderabad’s emerging residential and commercial zones.

Another major proposal raised during the meeting was the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project around Hyderabad. Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to expedite approvals, highlighting that the state has already agreed to bear 50 percent of the land acquisition cost for the northern section and has released ₹626 crore to the National Highways Authority of India. He noted that over 90 percent of the land acquisition process for the northern corridor has already been completed.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the southern section of the RRR , connecting Choutuppal and Sangareddy , is equally important for creating a seamless transportation network around Hyderabad. He urged the Centre to approve and execute both the northern and southern corridors simultaneously to maximize the project’s economic and logistical benefits.

Revanth Reddy also sought approval for the proposed Hyderabad–Amaravati–Bandar Port Expressway , a strategic corridor that would provide Telangana with direct access to coastal ports. The proposed 12-lane expressway is expected to strengthen supply chains and improve export competitiveness for sectors such as pharmaceuticals, electronics and food processing , which have emerged as key drivers of the state’s economy.

The development of the Warangal Airport was another issue discussed during the meeting. The Chief Minister informed the Prime Minister that the required land has already been acquired and handed over to the Airports Authority of India. Once operational, the airport is expected to boost industrial investment, tourism and educational activity across North Telangana.

In the education sector, Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to establish an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad. He assured the Prime Minister that the state government is prepared to allocate 200 acres of land for the institution. Pointing to Telangana’s growing reputation as a hub for higher education and innovation, he said an IIM would complement existing premier institutions and further strengthen the state’s academic ecosystem.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that timely approval of these projects would accelerate Telangana’s development trajectory, enhance regional connectivity, attract investments and generate employment opportunities across multiple sectors. He stressed that coordinated support from the Centre would play a crucial role in transforming Telangana into a stronger economic and infrastructure powerhouse in the years ahead.
