Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ravana, declaring that Congress workers from Telangana had arrived in New Delhi as a ‘vanara sena’ to help defeat the BJP. He made the remarks while addressing party workers at Telangana Bhavan ahead of the INDIA bloc’s ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally at Ramlila Maidan.

Drawing a parallel with the Ramayana, Reddy said that just as the vanara sena had supported Lord Rama in his battle against Ravana, Congress workers from Telangana had come to Delhi to challenge Modi. He alleged that the BJP was attempting to retain power by deleting votes belonging to poor and disadvantaged sections through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Reddy claimed that the BJP had secured victories in Bihar, West Bengal and Maharashtra by removing the votes of poor people. He further alleged that Modi had secured a third consecutive term as Prime Minister by dividing people along caste, religious, linguistic and regional lines.

The Chief Minister also claimed that the BJP had targeted 400 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 elections with the alleged intention of abolishing the Constitution, ending reservations and undermining the voting rights of women, Adivasis and Dalits. However, he said, voters had prevented the party from securing a majority on its own.

Accusing the BJP of targeting Dalits, Adivasis, minorities and women, Reddy claimed that 13.50 crore voters had already been removed from electoral rolls through the SIR exercise and warned that the figure could reach 20 crore. He also questioned the appointment of Gyanesh Kumar as Chief Election Commissioner.

Reddy said the Telangana Congress had planned to mobilise 15,000 workers for the Delhi rally but alleged that the Railways denied a special train booking at the last minute despite earlier indications that arrangements would be made.

Questioning whether Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gyanesh Kumar could stop the Congress workers, Reddy said their determination would ultimately prevail. He asserted that the workers would continue their struggle until they achieved their objective.
