CM Revanth Reddy Seeks Aga Khan Foundation Support for Education, Healthcare and Tourism

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sought greater cooperation from the Aga Khan Foundation in the state’s development initiatives, particularly in education, healthcare and tourism. He expressed the government’s interest in working with the foundation to strengthen these sectors and support Hyderabad’s ongoing transformation.

Revanth Reddy made the request during a courtesy meeting with His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, Chairman of the Aga Khan Foundation, who is currently visiting India. The meeting was held at the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad.

The Chief Minister recalled the foundation’s contribution to Telangana’s development and heritage conservation efforts. He said he had great respect for the organisation and highlighted the Aga Khan family’s long-standing association with Hyderabad. He pointed to the foundation’s role in restoring important heritage structures, including the Legislative Council building and the Qutb Shahi Tombs.

The Chief Minister also briefed Prince Rahim Aga Khan on the government’s plans for the Musi River rejuvenation project, a key component of Hyderabad’s redevelopment programme. He said the government was exploring the development of a night-time economy along the Musi riverfront and sought the foundation’s assistance in restoring historic buildings such as City College and Osmania Hospital. A new Osmania Hospital is being constructed at Goshamahal, while the existing structure is proposed to be preserved and developed as a heritage building.

Revanth Reddy invited Prince Rahim Aga Khan V to the Invest Telangana Global Summit, scheduled to take place at Future City from December 7 to 9. He said delegates from more than 100 countries are expected to participate. The government is developing Future City across 30,000 acres, with advanced infrastructure and a focus on creating a net-zero urban centre. Nearly 15,000 acres are planned as a green zone, while companies such as Amazon have already begun operations.

The Chief Minister said Telangana aims to increase its share of India’s GDP to 10% by 2047. Chief Minister’s Adviser K. Ramakrishna Rao briefed the delegation on agreements with global universities, including Harvard and the London School of Business.

Education Department Principal Secretary Yogita Rana proposed setting up an Aga Khan University in Future City, while Special Chief Secretary Vani Prasad sought further support for tourism development. Minister Mohammed Azharuddin, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, senior officials and foundation representatives attended the meeting.
