CM Revanth Reddy Thanks Kharge, Congress Leaders For Support Amid US Visit Row

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has thanked Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party leaders and people across the country for standing by him amid the controversy over the Centre’s refusal to grant political clearance for his proposed visit to the United States.

Revanth Reddy, who is currently in London, began his return journey to Hyderabad on Sunday. He said he would disclose the full details of the episode after reaching the state capital and indicated that he would address the media on the matter.

The Chief Minister had planned a 10-day tour of Britain and the United States, with engagements scheduled in both countries. He completed his programmes in London, but his plans for the US were altered after the Ministry of External Affairs did not grant the required political clearance.

In a post on X, Revanth Reddy alleged that the decision to deny permission for his US visit was driven by political considerations. He expressed gratitude to Kharge, the Congress leadership and citizens who supported him, saying their backing was important in the context of the issue.

The controversy has also triggered a political exchange between the Congress and BJP in Telangana. The BJP state president questioned reports that Revanth Reddy had sought to meet New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani during the cancelled US leg of his tour and demanded an explanation from the Chief Minister.

However, Chief Minister’s Office sources rejected the claim, stating that a meeting with Mamdani was not part of Revanth Reddy’s official schedule.

With the Chief Minister returning to Hyderabad, his proposed media briefing is expected to provide greater clarity on the reasons behind the cancellation of the US visit, the Centre’s decision and the political controversy surrounding it.
