CM Revanth Writes to Centre, Seeks Urgent Metro Funds and Phase-II Approval
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has stepped up efforts to advance Hyderabad’s ambitious metro rail expansion plans, writing an open letter to Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy seeking immediate intervention on pending funds and approvals related to the project.
In his letter, the Chief Minister urged Kishan Reddy to take up the matter with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and facilitate the release of funds sanctioned by the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) . The appeal covers both the financial closure of the existing metro network and approvals required for the proposed Hyderabad Metro Phase-II expansion.
According to the Chief Minister, the first tranche of the IRFC loan, approved under the financial agreement for the metro acquisition process, was scheduled for release on June 15, 2026 . He noted that the Telangana government had already fulfilled all preconditions stipulated under the agreement and paid ₹84.32 crore as an upfront fee requested by the financing agency. Despite meeting these obligations, the funds have yet to be disbursed.
Revanth Reddy stated that the state government remains ready to address any concerns or queries that the Centre may have regarding the metro acquisition process, signed agreements, or the proposed expansion project. He said he was willing to personally present clarifications and supporting documents to ensure that pending issues are resolved without delay.
Seeking a quicker resolution, the Chief Minister requested Kishan Reddy to arrange a meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the earliest. He expressed confidence that direct discussions would help clear bottlenecks and accelerate progress on one of Hyderabad’s most critical infrastructure projects.
The letter comes at a crucial time, as the Telangana government pushes ahead with plans to bring the existing metro network under public ownership while simultaneously expanding services to cater to the city's rapidly growing population. The state has argued that timely financial support and approvals are essential for integrating future corridors and strengthening urban mobility.
₹38,595-Crore Expansion Plan
Revanth Reddy also highlighted the scale of the proposed Metro Phase-II project , which aims to add 122.9 kilometres of metro connectivity across seven corridors in Hyderabad. Estimated to cost ₹38,595 crore , the project is designed to improve connectivity to emerging residential zones, business districts, and key transport hubs across the city.
The Chief Minister urged the Centre to expedite all necessary approvals for the expansion, stressing that the project would play a vital role in reducing traffic congestion, improving public transport accessibility, and supporting Hyderabad’s continued growth as a major technology and investment destination.
With the metro expansion emerging as a key component of Telangana’s urban development agenda, all eyes are now on the Centre’s response to the state’s request for financial and administrative support.
