CM Vijay Inaugurates ₹23-Crore Bus Stand, ₹8-Crore Indoor Stadium in Pudukkottai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday inaugurated a modern bus stand and an indoor sports stadium in Pudukkottai district, besides distributing welfare assistance to beneficiaries and initiating additional development projects.

The new bus stand, constructed at a cost of ₹23 crore, is expected to improve public transport infrastructure and provide better facilities for commuters. Some reports have pegged the project's cost at ₹23.25 crore.

Vijay also inaugurated a multipurpose indoor sports stadium, established at a cost of ₹8 crore, aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure in the district and providing facilities for sporting activities.

As part of the visit, the chief minister distributed welfare assistance to beneficiaries under various schemes. Reports said assistance worth more than ₹100 crore was earmarked for around 14,000 beneficiaries. The support reportedly covered housing pattas, financial assistance, sewing machines, agricultural equipment and education-related assistance.

The chief minister also laid the foundation stone for additional development projects worth ₹11.72 crore, marking another component of the district's infrastructure development programme. During his visit, Vijay inspected an exhibition showcasing traditional agricultural produce, including indigenous paddy varieties, cashew nuts and millets, highlighting the region's agricultural diversity.

The visit witnessed elaborate security arrangements, with reports indicating the deployment of around 4,000 police personnel. The welfare distribution programme was reportedly shifted from the Armed Reserve Police grounds to the district Collectorate.

Vijay travelled to Pudukkottai from Tiruchirappalli and received a welcome from party workers and members of the public. A roadshow was also reported during his visit. The inaugurations and development initiatives form part of the state government's efforts to improve public infrastructure and extend welfare assistance to beneficiaries.

The bus stand and indoor stadium are expected to add to Pudukkottai's civic and sporting infrastructure, while the additional projects and welfare measures constitute the broader development agenda outlined during the chief minister's visit.
