CM Vijay Launches MLA Training, Speaker Coins ‘Vijay Model Government’

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Tuesday inaugurated a two-day orientation and training programme for newly elected MLAs , ahead of the Assembly session beginning on June 18.

Speaking at the event, Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar described the month-old TVK administration as a “Vijay model government,” praising the Chief Minister's efforts to promote inclusive governance and maintain Tamil Nadu as an "Eden of peace" by embracing people across castes, faiths and communities.

Organised by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat at Kalaivanar Arangam, the programme is aimed at familiarising legislators especially first-time MLAs with Assembly procedures, legislative rules, parliamentary conduct, debate participation, questioning of the government, committee work and constituency representation .

Such orientation programmes are not unique to Tamil Nadu and have been conducted in several states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Odisha, as well as for newly elected Members of Parliament. They are intended to strengthen legislative effectiveness and improve lawmakers' understanding of constitutional and parliamentary responsibilities.

Emphasising the importance of upholding the dignity of the House, Prabhakar urged legislators to learn from the debates and contributions of former leaders such as C.N. Annadurai, K. Kamaraj and M. Karunanidhi through the Assembly library.

Referring to key political developments in 1972 and 1989 , the Speaker noted that conduct inside the legislature can significantly influence public perception and shape political outcomes. He encouraged members to remain proactive, confident and committed to public welfare and democratic values while carrying out their legislative duties.
