Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Friday visited Karur and handed over government appointment orders to members of families affected by the devastating Karur stampede of September 27, 2025 , a tragedy that claimed 41 lives and left several others injured during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally attended by him.

The visit marked Vijay's first official trip to Karur after assuming office as Chief Minister in May . Amid tight security arrangements, he met the bereaved families, offered his condolences, and assured them that the state government would continue to stand by them during their recovery and rehabilitation.

The government distributed compassionate appointment orders to 32 eligible family members of those who died in the stampede. The move is being seen as an important relief measure aimed at providing financial security and long-term support to the affected households.

The tragedy had triggered widespread grief across Tamil Nadu and led to investigations into crowd management and safety arrangements at the political event. The incident remains one of the most painful chapters in the state's recent political history.

Later in the day, Vijay participated in a "Makkal Santhippu" (People's Meet) programme at a private college ground on the Karur-Salem Highway, where he interacted with party workers and members of the public. State Minister and TVK General Secretary N. Anand said that only 5,000 people with QR-code entry passes were permitted to attend the event and appealed to attendees to strictly follow police instructions.

For many families, the Chief Minister's visit was more than a political event. It was a moment of remembrance, reassurance and renewed hope as they continue to cope with the loss of their loved ones. The handing over of appointment orders was seen as a significant step towards helping the affected families rebuild their lives while keeping alive the memory of those who died in the tragic stampede.
