Collector Ila Tripathi Boosts Women’s Leadership in Nizamabad
In a significant move to strengthen grassroots democracy and inclusive rural administration, Nizamabad District Collector Ila Tripathi launched a focused initiative to empower women sarpanches with leadership and administrative skills. The programme reflects Telangana’s governance reforms and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s emphasis on improving transparency and accountability in village administration. With women holding nearly 50% reservation in local bodies, officials stressed that representation must translate into effective governance and independent decision-making.
A structured leadership training programme brought together elected women leaders to address real governance challenges. Discussions focused on financial management , implementation of welfare schemes , tax collection systems, protection of panchayat lands , and delivery of essential civic services. Through case studies and interactive sessions, participants learned budgeting practices, transparent record-keeping, and strategies to prevent encroachments while strengthening local administration.
Officials emphasized strengthening decision-making autonomy and discouraging proxy governance so that elected women representatives function as true civic leaders. To ensure continued mentorship and swift resolution of issues, the Collector has reserved Monday afternoons exclusively for women sarpanches to present problems, seek guidance, and receive immediate administrative support. The initiative is expected to deepen women’s empowerment , strengthen public trust, and improve service delivery across rural communities.
