Communal Unrest in Banswada: Owaisi Seeks Probe and Protection for Minorities
AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has expressed deep concern over recent communal tensions in Telangana, warning that such incidents threaten social harmony and public order . He strongly condemned the violence reported from Banswada in Kamareddy district and urged authorities to take stringent action against those responsible.
The unrest reportedly began after a dispute at a commercial establishment over the playing of devotional music escalated into an argument between two groups. The confrontation soon turned violent, leading to stone-pelting and damage to property. Several persons, including a police constable , sustained injuries during the clashes. Police registered cases related to rioting and disturbing peace, arrested 12 individuals , and deployed additional forces to restore normalcy.
Owaisi alleged that minority communities , including small shop owners and street vendors, were specifically targeted during the violence. He questioned how a large crowd assembled within a short span of time and described the development as suspicious. Referring to videos circulating on social media, he claimed they show mob attacks and demanded a thorough investigation . He also alleged that one accused was assaulted by locals while in custody.
The MP said he spoke with the Superintendent of Police and sought strict action against those involved, along with protection for vulnerable communities. He added that local AIMIM leaders are assessing the damage to businesses and preparing a report. Owaisi demanded immediate compensation from the state government for those who suffered losses and assured victims of all possible assistance.
Meanwhile, he also voiced concern over the demolition of Masjid-e-Maulana in Sadasivpet , alleging administrative high-handedness and harassment of landowner Mohammed Kaleem. He questioned why revenue authorities initiated demolition only after construction began, citing the land as inam property, and asked why no action was taken earlier.
Emphasizing the need to preserve peace, Owaisi urged the government to take firm steps to maintain law and order, ensure fairness in administrative actions, and uphold communal harmony across the state.
