Congress Begins Alliance Strategy for 2027 Goa Polls, Invites Like-Minded Parties

The Goa Congress on Saturday said it is ready to join hands with like-minded political parties to challenge the ruling BJP in the 2027 Goa Assembly elections , provided the alliance is built around a common programme and shared ideology.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting of the party’s Political Affairs Committee , AICC Goa in-charge Manikrao Thakare said the Congress has authorised state unit chief Girish Chodankar to hold discussions with parties that share similar views and are willing to fight the BJP.

“After consultations, we are willing to form alliances with any party that wants to fight the BJP, provided there is a common programme based on our shared ideology,” Thakare said.

The committee also reviewed the party’s election preparedness and decided to strengthen its organisational network across the state. New committees will be formed at the village, block, district and state levels as part of preparations for the polls.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao , who heads the party’s election committee, has been tasked with drafting the Congress’ election strategy and programmes.

Targeting the BJP government in Goa, Thakare alleged that it had failed to work in the interest of the people and assured voters that Congress would continue to raise public issues.

The Congress had contested the 2022 Goa Assembly elections in alliance with the Goa Forward Party and won 11 seats. However, eight of its MLAs later switched allegiance to the BJP, reducing the party’s strength to three in the 40-member Assembly.
