Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed strong optimism over the outcome of the recently concluded municipal election polling, asserting that the Congress party is poised to win in more than 80% of municipalities across the state. He said the response from voters reflects growing public approval of the state government’s welfare and development agenda.

Addressing the media, the minister alleged that the BJP and BRS attempted to undermine the democratic process by creating disturbances at polling centres. He claimed there were incidents of tension, intimidation of voters, and localized clashes in certain areas. He also accused a Nizamabad Member of Parliament of entering a polling booth and provoking unrest, calling it an attempt to influence the electoral atmosphere.

Prabhakar defended the Congress government’s performance, highlighting a range of welfare schemes implemented in the last two years. These include Indiramma housing for the poor, the Gruha Jyothi scheme offering up to 200 units of free electricity , gas subsidies, distribution of fine rice, expansion of ration card coverage, free RTC bus travel for women , interest-free loans for women’s self-help groups, Rythu Bharosa financial assistance for farmers, and farm loan waivers . He said these measures have built trust among both rural and urban populations, strengthening the Congress party’s support base.

The minister criticized the BJP’s campaign narrative that only it could ensure municipal development, arguing that despite being in power at the Centre for years, it has failed to adequately address urban infrastructure challenges. He challenged the BJP to secure greater central funding for Telangana, assuring that the state government is ready with plans for implementation.

Describing the municipal elections as a significant test of urban governance , Prabhakar said the outcome would reaffirm public endorsement of the Congress administration. He maintained that development achieved in villages would be extended to towns and cities, and that the party would continue pressing the Centre until Telangana receives what he termed its rightful share of funds.
