Congress Slams BRS Over Assembly Conduct, KTR’s Remarks Against Revanth Reddy

Congress MLAs and MLCs on Wednesday launched a strong attack on BRS members over their conduct during the ongoing Telangana Assembly and Legislative Council sessions. They also criticised the remarks made by BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing the opposition party of violating legislative norms and using inappropriate language.

Congress MLC Balmoor Venkat said the suspension of two BRS MLCs from the Legislative Council was a direct consequence of their behaviour during protests. He said the action was not aimed at curbing legitimate dissent but at reinforcing the importance of maintaining the dignity of the Upper House. According to Venkat, members with grievances should raise them through established parliamentary procedures rather than disrupting proceedings.

Venkat further alleged that the BRS was deliberately adopting an anti-Dalit stance. He questioned the silence of party president K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) over alleged objectionable remarks directed at the Speaker, who belongs to the Dalit community. Instead of condemning the remarks or seeking an apology, KCR was allegedly defending the person responsible, Venkat claimed.

The Congress MLC also strongly objected to the alleged “purification” of a location where members of the Dalit community had staged a protest using tamarind water. He described the incident as objectionable and said the Congress would hold protests over KTR’s remarks against the Chief Minister.

Congress MLA Nayani Rajender Reddy accused BRS leaders of engaging in what he described as “proxy politics” by placing women at the forefront of their protests. He said the alleged remarks against the Speaker were unacceptable and urged the opposition to use the Assembly to debate public concerns.

Rajender Reddy challenged BRS members to raise issues such as drought conditions and students’ problems inside the legislature instead of staging protests outside. He alleged that the opposition was wasting valuable Assembly time and public resources by disrupting proceedings rather than participating in constructive debates.

Congress MLC Addanki Dayakar also criticised KTR, alleging that he had become one of Telangana’s most “debased” political leaders. Dayakar accused the BRS working president of using undemocratic, unparliamentary and abusive language against the Chief Minister and condemned the tone of his remarks.
