Constitution Being Reduced to a Mockery Under Coalition Rule, Alleges Kakani Govardhan Reddy
Former Andhra Pradesh minister and YSRCP district president Dr Kakani Govardhan Reddy on Sunday alleged that the coalition government in the state has failed to maintain transparency in governance and is allowing political interference in the functioning of constitutional institutions, including the election machinery.
Kakani, accompanied by MLC Parvathareddy Chandrasekhar Reddy and other senior YSRCP leaders, visited the Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district collectorate to submit a representation over alleged irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls . As the District Collector was unavailable, the delegation submitted the memorandum to the District Revenue Officer.
Speaking to reporters later, Kakani claimed that Nellore was the first district in Andhra Pradesh where serious concerns regarding the voter list revision process had surfaced. He alleged that district minister P. Narayana , despite having no official role in the exercise, conducted a meeting on June 22 with Booth Level Officers, the Municipal Commissioner, Mayor and Deputy Mayors. Such involvement in an Election Commission-related process was inappropriate and contrary to established norms, he argued.
The former minister alleged that constitutional values and administrative protocols were being ignored under the present government. He claimed that the state was witnessing the dominance of political interests over constitutional principles and accused the ruling leadership of undermining institutions meant to function independently.
Kakani also expressed anger over the conduct of certain officials, alleging that enumeration data from Chennur village in Gudur Rural mandal was being shared with leaders of the ruling Telugu Desam Party before completion of official procedures. According to him, the objective was to remove voters perceived to support the opposition while protecting questionable entries favourable to the ruling alliance.
He further accused a municipal commissioner of misusing official authority and acting in a partisan manner. The YSRCP leader alleged that during teleconferences, instructions were being given on how to identify and remove opposition votes while coordinating with ruling party functionaries.
Stating that YSRCP General Secretary Lella Appi Reddy had already lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, Kakani demanded an independent inquiry under the supervision of district election authorities. He called for immediate action against officials found violating election rules.
Warning of intensified protests, Kakani said the party would approach the courts if the revision process was not conducted transparently. He also cautioned that YSRCP workers would launch agitations, including demonstrations at municipal and collectorate offices, if alleged irregularities continued, asserting that the party would not be deterred by cases or arrests.
