The CPI will intensify its campaign against the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, with party state secretary Gujjula Eshwaraiah announcing a nationwide mobilisation under the banner of ‘Chalo Delhi’ on September 1. He accused the NDA government of pursuing policies that were hurting ordinary people and weakening democratic voices.

Addressing a programme in Palasa, Eshwaraiah said the government could not expect public criticism to disappear by attempting to silence dissent. He alleged that the Centre was following an anti-people and authoritarian approach and warned that the CPI would continue to challenge such policies.

He also criticised the government’s economic policies, alleging that rising borrowings, the sale of public assets and the transfer of public sector enterprises to corporate interests were placing additional pressure on the people. Eshwaraiah said increasing debt and imposing greater financial burdens on citizens could not be portrayed as development.

The CPI leader objected to the alleged practice of branding critics of government policies as ‘Dimaag Naxals’. He said citizens had the right to question government decisions and that such criticism could not be silenced through labels. He maintained that the youth and people would continue demanding accountability from those in power.

Eshwaraiah also criticised the Andhra Pradesh coalition government, alleging that Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan were giving greater importance to supporting the Centre than raising issues concerning the state.

Questioning the coalition’s ‘double-engine government’ narrative, he asked why the state leadership was not putting greater pressure on New Delhi over special category status, a special package for North Andhra and irrigation issues.

He said the CPI would continue highlighting the region’s long-pending concerns, including Vamsadhara-Nagavali river linking, irrigation and tribal welfare. He also questioned the government’s projection of the Bhogapuram airport as a symbol of regional development, saying employment and livelihood concerns needed equal attention.

In Srikakulam, the party would continue its campaign on tribal issues, the demand for an ITDA, irrigation and employment, he said.

With local body elections approaching, Eshwaraiah said the CPI would contest as the people’s voice. He reiterated that the party would intensify its nationwide agitation against the Centre through the September 1 ‘Chalo Delhi’ programme.
