Criticize Policies, Not Individuals: Pawan Kalyan on Remarks Against Minister Anitha
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has strongly criticized the personal remarks made against State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha , saying political debates should focus on policies and governance rather than individuals.
In a statement posted on X, the Jana Sena Party chief said disagreements are a natural part of democracy, but criticism must remain issue-based. According to him, political leaders should challenge decisions and policies they disagree with instead of resorting to personal attacks.
Pawan Kalyan expressed particular concern over comments targeting a woman's appearance and attire, describing such remarks as unacceptable in public life. He said statements of that nature do not merely affect an individual leader but also send a negative message to women across society.
"Public representatives must remember that every word they speak is closely watched by the people," he said, stressing that those holding public office have a responsibility to maintain standards of dignity and respect.
The Deputy Chief Minister also used the occasion to send a message to leaders of the ruling alliance. He urged them to firmly counter objectionable comments from political opponents but avoid responding in the same tone. Instead, he said, coalition leaders should expose the inappropriate nature of such remarks while maintaining language that reflects democratic values and political maturity.
Pawan Kalyan noted that adopting abusive rhetoric or engaging in personal mudslinging would serve no purpose and would only lower the quality of public debate. He maintained that the coalition government has no need to mirror the style of politics practiced by its critics.
Calling for a more responsible political culture, he said leaders should ensure that disagreements remain within the boundaries of civility. He also emphasized that any attempt to undermine the dignity of women must be challenged through democratic means.
The controversy has once again sparked discussion over the tone of political discourse in Andhra Pradesh, with growing calls for leaders across party lines to prioritize substantive debate over personal attacks. As political competition intensifies, Pawan Kalyan's remarks underscore the importance of maintaining respect, particularly when addressing women in public life.
