India has taken a major step towards strengthening its armed forces after the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved defence procurement proposals worth nearly ₹52,000 crore . The approvals aim to enhance the combat capabilities of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force through advanced weapons, air defence systems, unmanned platforms and surveillance technologies.

Chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh , the DAC granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for multiple acquisitions. An AoN is the government's in-principle approval that initiates the defence procurement process.

For the Indian Army , the approved acquisitions include the Akash Tarnag anti-UAV electronic warfare system , Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) , Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) , Very Short Range Air Defence System (V-SHORADS) , an Active Protection System for tanks and jet-based kamikaze drones . These systems are expected to strengthen protection against drones, improve air defence, enhance anti-tank capability and increase battlefield survivability.

The Indian Navy will procure Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM) , Naval Shipborne Unmanned Aerial System (NSUAS) and establish a Land-Based Testing Facility (LBTF) for electric propulsion systems, boosting maritime surveillance, sea-denial capabilities and indigenous testing infrastructure.

For the Indian Air Force , the DAC approved procurement of Fixed-Wing Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (FW-HAPS) systems, which will provide persistent intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, telecommunications and remote sensing capabilities.

The latest approvals highlight India's continued focus on military modernisation , with investments in advanced air defence, anti-drone technologies, electronic warfare and next-generation surveillance systems to improve operational readiness and strengthen national security.
