Dave Bautista in Talks to Play Kratos in "God of War" Series After Ryan Hurst's Exit

Actor and former WWE star Dave Bautista is reportedly in talks to take on the iconic role of Kratos in the upcoming "God of War" television series after Ryan Hurst exited the project due to an injury.

According to Variety, Hurst, who was cast as Kratos in January 2026, suffered a torn bicep during production. The injury would have delayed filming until 2027, prompting Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television to recast the lead role in an effort to resume production by fall 2026.

Known for his imposing physique and successful transition from professional wrestling to acting, Bautista is considered a strong fit for the role of the powerful Spartan warrior. His physical conditioning means he would require minimal preparation to portray the muscular video game protagonist.

Bautista rose to global fame through WWE before establishing himself in Hollywood with roles such as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His film credits also include "Dune", "Blade Runner 2049", "Knock at the Cabin", "Spectre", and "Army of the Dead". He also recently voiced a character in "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender."

The "God of War" series has received a two-season order and will adapt the storyline from the two most recent games in the franchise. The plot follows Kratos and his young son Atreus as they journey to scatter the ashes of Faye, while navigating the challenges of fatherhood and confronting the gods of Norse mythology.

Callum Vinson will portray Atreus, while the supporting cast includes Max Parker, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Mandy Patinkin, Alastair Duncan, Danny Woodburn, Jeff Gulka, and Ed Skrein. Frederick E.O. Toye will direct the first two episodes, with the series co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, PlayStation Productions, and Tall Ship Productions. (Source: ANI)
