A massive funeral procession for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei turned into a display of strong anti United States sentiment on Sunday, with a performer publicly calling for the death of US President Donald Trump before a crowd of hundreds of thousands in Tehran .

The remarks came during the state funeral attended by mourners dressed in black, many of whom carried portraits, banners and Iranian flags in tribute to Khamenei. The gathering also echoed with slogans such as "Death to America" and "Death to Israel," reflecting the country's long standing political rhetoric.

During the ceremony, poet Mohammad Rasouli addressed the crowd and questioned why Trump was "still alive," drawing loud cheers from those present. The comments were followed by renewed chants against the United States and Israel, highlighting the deeply charged atmosphere surrounding the funeral.

The turnout on Sunday was significantly larger than the previous day's events, with mourners filling the streets of the Iranian capital. Many participants also displayed banners calling for action against Trump while he was addressing celebrations in Washington marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States .

Khamenei, who led Iran for decades, was killed at the age of 86 in an airstrike on February 28 , during the opening phase of the recent Iran war. His funeral had been postponed while the conflict continued and was held only after hostilities eased.

The ceremony is also seen as politically significant for Iran's leadership. Analysts believe it could strengthen the country's ruling establishment and reinforce the position of Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei , the late leader's son and successor as Supreme Leader.

The funeral comes at a crucial time as Iran seeks to use its strategic influence over the Strait of Hormuz in negotiations with the United States aimed at securing a permanent end to the conflict. Diplomatic discussions, however, remain suspended, while concerns persist over the possibility of renewed military action by Israel.
