The Delhi government on Monday approved a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy aimed at reducing vehicular pollution and accelerating the shift towards electric mobility in the national capital.

Under the policy, electric cars priced up to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom) will receive a 100 per cent exemption on road tax and registration fees . The government has also announced purchase incentives for electric vehicles, including subsidies for two-wheelers, three-wheelers and electric trucks.

Buyers of electric two-wheelers will get a subsidy of ₹30,000 in the first year, ₹20,000 in the second year and ₹10,000 in the third year . Electric three-wheeler buyers will receive incentives of ₹50,000, ₹40,000 and ₹30,000 over three years, while N1 category electric truck buyers can avail benefits of up to ₹1 lakh.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government will invest around ₹15,000 crore over the next four years to promote EV adoption and tackle pollution. The policy, which comes into effect from July 1 , aims to make Delhi a pollution-free city by March 31, 2030 .

As part of the transition plan, only electric autorickshaws will be registered from January 1, 2027 , while registrations of new petrol and CNG two-wheelers will be phased out, with only electric two-wheelers allowed from April 1, 2028 .

The policy also includes a ₹1 lakh scrapping incentive for owners of BS-IV and older four-wheelers who switch to electric vehicles. No subsidy will be provided for hybrid vehicles.

The government will also expand charging infrastructure, vehicle scrapping facilities and digital services through a dedicated portal for EV-related incentives.
