Delhi Court Extends Custody of Two Key Accused in NEET-UG Paper Leak Case
A Delhi court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of two key accused in the NEET-UG paper leak case till July 11 , as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues its probe into the alleged examination fraud.
The accused, P. V. Kulkarni , alleged to be the kingpin of the racket, and Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar , founder of Renukai Career Centre (RCC) , were produced before Special Judge Ajay Gupta , who allowed the CBI's request to extend their custody.
Kulkarni, a chemistry domain expert from Latur, Maharashtra , was reportedly associated with the panel that prepared NEET question papers for several years. He was arrested in Pune last month and later remanded to judicial custody.
Motegaonkar was arrested in May from Latur. According to the CBI, a leaked NEET-UG question paper from the May 3 examination was recovered from his personal mobile phone during searches. The agency alleged that he was an active member of an organised network involved in leaking and circulating the examination paper and answer key through his coaching centre.
The CBI has so far arrested 13 accused in connection with the case, all of whom remain in judicial custody.
The alleged paper leak triggered nationwide controversy over the integrity of the medical entrance examination. On May 12 , the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 following allegations of a leak. A re-examination was held on June 21 to ensure a fair admission process for medical aspirants across the country.
