Delhi Customs Destroys 140 Kg Hydroponic Weed, 25 Kg Cocaine Worth Rs 515 Crore
Delhi Customs on Wednesday destroyed around 165 kg of seized narcotics, including cocaine and hydroponic weed, with an estimated value of Rs 515 crore, officials said. The consignment comprised approximately 140 kg of hydroponic weed valued at Rs 140 crore and 25 kg of cocaine worth Rs 375 crore, according to an official statement.
The narcotics were destroyed by the High-Level Drug Disposal Committee of Delhi Customs as part of the department's prescribed drug-disposal process. The exercise was carried out in accordance with statutory procedures and safeguards, officials said.
The disposal comes amid sustained enforcement by Customs authorities against drug trafficking through Indira Gandhi International Airport, which has emerged as a key point of detection for narcotics consignments.
Between April and September 2025, Delhi Customs seized around 611 kg of narcotics in 89 cases at the airport and arrested 109 alleged traffickers, the department said. The seized contraband during the period included hydroponic weed, heroin and cocaine. The latest disposal exercise was conducted under the supervision of Arvind Saran, Commissioner of Customs (Airport and General).
The disposal committee was chaired by Shankar Prasad Sarma, Additional Commissioner of Customs (Disposal), and comprised other committee members and officers concerned. Joint Commissioner Neetish Verma was also present during the exercise.
The department said the destruction of the seized drugs was undertaken following the prescribed legal procedures and safeguards, ensuring compliance with the rules governing disposal of confiscated narcotic substances.
Customs authorities have continued to intensify surveillance and enforcement at the IGI Airport to detect attempts to smuggle prohibited substances into the country. The seizures have involved different forms of narcotics, including high-value synthetic and plant-based drugs.
The destruction of the seized consignment marks another step in the department's ongoing action against the illegal trafficking and smuggling of narcotic substances through the national capital's airport.
