Delhi HC Seeks Reply From ‘Kala Hiran’ Makers on Salman Khan’s Plea to Halt Film
The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the makers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legal after Bollywood star Salman Khan sought an immediate stay on the film's release, alleging that it violates his personality rights and damages his reputation.
A vacation bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna directed producer Amit Jani , production house Jani FireFox Films , director Bharat Shrinate , casting director Akshay Pandey and other associated parties to respond to Khan's application. The matter is scheduled for hearing on June 19.
Appearing for the actor, advocate Nizam Pasha argued that the proposed film is clearly inspired by the long-running blackbuck poaching case linked to Khan and unlawfully exploits his image despite an earlier Delhi High Court order protecting his personality and publicity rights.
The court was informed that although the film's release date has not been announced, its trailer was released on Friday. Khan contended that the lead character bears a striking resemblance to him, including his appearance, clothing style and signature bracelet.
In his plea, Khan sought orders restraining the filmmakers from releasing, exhibiting, publishing, advertising or promoting the movie through any teaser, trailer, poster or other publicity material pending adjudication of the dispute.
The actor further argued that the film presents a misleading and defamatory narrative, noting that he was acquitted in multiple cases related to the alleged poaching incident, while one connected matter remains pending before the Supreme Court.
The case marks the latest chapter in a legal battle that began with Khan issuing a legal notice to the filmmakers earlier this month, before escalating the matter to the Delhi High Court.
