Delhi HC Set to Hear Plea on Blocking of Cockroach Janta Party X Handle
The Delhi High Court is set to hear a petition today challenging the blocking of a satirical political outfit’s social media presence on X , bringing fresh attention to the debate over online expression and platform regulation.
The plea has been filed by Abhijeet Dipke , founder of the Cockroach Janta Party , and is listed before Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav . The petition challenges the decision to withhold the group’s original X account in India on May 21 .
The Cockroach Janta Party , which describes itself as a youth driven digital movement using satire as a form of protest, gained attention amid a controversy linked to remarks attributed to the Chief Justice of India during a hearing on May 15. The remarks, which included references to “cockroaches” and “parasites,” triggered public debate before a clarification was issued on May 16 by the CJI, stating that his comments had been misquoted and were aimed at individuals entering the legal profession through “fake and bogus degrees.”
Following the controversy, the group’s original X handle was withheld in India . It later resurfaced under a new account titled “Cockroach is Back” , which has reportedly gathered more than 2,27,000 followers , reflecting strong online traction despite the action.
Abhijeet Dipke , formerly associated with the Aam Aadmi Party , launched the initiative as a digital platform claiming to amplify youth concerns and demand government accountability. The movement has also drawn attention for its unconventional identity and mobilisation style, which supporters describe as satire driven protest.
In recent weeks, the group has intensified its campaign, including calls for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan , citing alleged systemic issues in education and the NEET UG 2026 paper leak controversy.
With the matter now before the court, the upcoming hearing is expected to examine questions around content regulation, political expression, and the limits of satirical digital activism on major social media platforms.
