The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to the makers of the upcoming film “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legal” on a plea filed by actor Salman Khan , who has sought a stay on its release over alleged violation of his personality rights .

A vacation bench led by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna directed producers Amit Jani, Akshay Pandey and others to respond to Khan’s application and listed the matter for hearing on June 19 .

Khan has argued that the film is based on the blackbuck poaching case , in which he was earlier acquitted in several proceedings, and that it unlawfully exploits his name, likeness and public persona. His counsel submitted that the character shown in the trailer and poster closely resembles the actor, including distinctive styling and accessories associated with him.

The plea further claims that the promotional material is defamatory and creates a misleading narrative despite court records, and that it amounts to an attempt to commercially benefit from his identity.

The court noted that while the film’s release date has not been confirmed, its trailer was released earlier on Friday. The application forms part of Khan’s broader suit seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights , for which he has already obtained interim relief in December 2025.

The High Court has in recent months also extended similar protection to several public figures, including actors, cricketers and political leaders, in cases involving unauthorised use of their identity.
