The death toll in the devastating fire that engulfed a hotel in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar area has risen to 23 after a Bangladeshi woman undergoing treatment for severe burn injuries succumbed on Wednesday, police said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal , the woman had sustained critical burn injuries in the blaze and was receiving treatment at a hospital. Her death marks the latest casualty in one of the capital's deadliest fire tragedies in recent years.

The fire broke out on June 4 at Flourish Stays Bed and Breakfast in the Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar, claiming 21 lives and leaving several others injured. The toll had increased to 22 last week after a Nigerian national, who was also being treated for severe burns, died during treatment.

Following the incident, multiple agencies launched investigations into the cause of the fire and possible violations of safety norms at the establishment. Authorities have conducted inspections of the premises and are examining whether the hotel complied with mandatory fire safety regulations.

The Delhi Police have registered a case and are probing allegations of negligence. Officials are also scrutinising permissions, safety clearances and emergency preparedness measures at the property. Civic and fire department authorities have initiated action to identify lapses and fix responsibility for the tragedy.

The incident has once again raised concerns over fire safety compliance in hotels, guest houses and commercial establishments across the national capital. Authorities have indicated that strict action will be taken against those found responsible after the investigation is completed.

With the latest death, the toll from the June 4 blaze now stands at 23, while some injured victims continue to receive medical treatment.
