Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Transport Minister Pankaj Singh on Friday flagged off the electric taxi service of Green SM, a Vietnam-based mobility company, marking a significant step in the capital's push towards cleaner transportation.

A fleet of 1,000 driver-operated electric taxis and the company's mobile booking application were launched as part of the initiative. Green SM plans to expand its electric cab fleet across Delhi-NCR to 10,000 vehicles within a year .

Speaking at the launch, Sirsa said the Delhi government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta , remains committed to promoting green initiatives that help reduce pollution and improve citizens' quality of life. Singh said electric mobility is a key pillar of Delhi's vision for sustainable urban transport and aligns with the objectives of the Delhi EV Policy to accelerate the adoption of clean mobility solutions, reduce vehicular emissions, and improve air quality.

"Every step towards electrification is a step towards a healthier environment and a better quality of life for our citizens," Singh said.

The event was attended by Green SM Global CEO Nguyen Van Thanh and Vingroup Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau . The company has also established a manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.

The launch underscores how electric mobility is entering a new phase in India , moving beyond private vehicle ownership towards large-scale fleet-based operations and public transport adoption . With ride-hailing services, buses, and commercial fleets increasingly shifting to electric vehicles, policymakers view the transition as crucial to cutting urban emissions, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and building cleaner, more sustainable cities.
