Delhi on Yellow Alert as IMD Forecasts Rain, Thunderstorms Amid Active Monsoon
The national capital began Friday under overcast skies as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert , forecasting moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds throughout the day amid active monsoon conditions.
The city recorded a minimum temperature of 28.1°C , while the maximum temperature is likely to reach around 32°C , offering respite from the recent humid weather. The IMD expects a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate showers at several locations, accompanied by winds of 40-50 kmph during different parts of the day.
Weather observations from various stations showed Palam recording 25.9°C , Lodhi Road 28.0°C , Ridge 24.6°C , and Ayanagar 25.8°C , with most areas reporting temperatures close to or slightly below the seasonal average.
The weather office has advised residents to remain alert as intermittent rain and thunderstorms may lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion and reduced visibility , particularly in low-lying areas. People have been urged to avoid taking shelter under trees during lightning, secure loose outdoor objects and check weather updates before travelling.
The prevailing monsoon conditions are expected to keep daytime temperatures under control while increasing the possibility of localized disruptions across the city.
Meanwhile, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 89 at 9 a.m. , placing it in the 'satisfactory' category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) . The rainfall is also expected to help maintain cleaner air quality in the capital over the coming days.
