Delhi Police Starts Weekly Jan Sunwai at All Stations
In a major step aimed at improving public outreach and accountability , Delhi Police will begin conducting weekly "Thana Divas-Jan Sunwai" sessions at every police station across the national capital from next week.
The initiative follows directions from Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and is intended to provide citizens with a dedicated platform to raise complaints, seek assistance, and offer suggestions related to policing and public safety.
According to guidelines issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha , the public hearings will be held every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all police stations. Senior officers, including Special Commissioners, Joint Commissioners, Additional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), will participate on a rotational basis to ensure prompt grievance redressal .
Officials said all complaints presented during the Jan Sunwai sessions will be heard, regardless of whether they are registered on the Integrated Complaint Monitoring System (ICMS) . Complaints received during the hearings will subsequently be uploaded to the portal for monitoring and follow-up action.
Police stations have been directed to maintain separate records of grievances and take immediate action on complaints requiring inquiry or field verification. The circular also mandates periodic reviews of pending cases by ACPs and DCPs to ensure timely disposal.
To facilitate public participation, Station House Officers (SHOs) have been instructed to provide adequate seating arrangements, assistance desks, and a citizen-friendly environment during the hearings. District police chiefs will publicise the initiative through social media, Resident Welfare Associations, Market Welfare Associations, and beat staff.
The circular further states that SHOs, ACPs, and DCPs will be held personally responsible for effective implementation , with delays or negligence in handling grievances to be viewed seriously.
