Delhi Records 14.2 mm Rainfall as IMD Warns of More Thunderstorms
Parts of the national capital witnessed light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday, bringing relief from humid conditions even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for more showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds during the day.
According to the IMD, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms or lightning and winds reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at many places across Delhi over the next few hours. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially during periods of intense weather activity.
The Safdarjung weather station, considered Delhi's base observatory, recorded a minimum temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius . It also received 14.2 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Wednesday.
The weather department has forecast the maximum temperature to settle at around 32 degrees Celsius , with cloudy skies expected to persist through the day.
Meteorologists said the ongoing spell of rain, triggered by active weather systems over the region, is likely to lose intensity over Wednesday and Thursday . While intermittent showers may continue, the overall rainfall activity is expected to weaken compared to the heavy rain experienced earlier.
The fresh spell of rainfall has provided temporary respite from the heat, although waterlogging and traffic disruptions were reported in some areas following the downpour. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as the IMD keeps the city under a yellow alert for changing weather conditions.
