Delhi recorded its coldest night of the month so far on Sunday, with the minimum temperature dropping to 17.1 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees below the seasonal normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The minimum temperature was 1.5 degrees Celsius lower than Saturday’s reading, indicating a further dip in nighttime temperatures across the national capital.

Among the city’s weather stations, Lodhi Road and Ayanagar recorded the lowest minimum temperatures at 16.8 degrees Celsius each, two degrees below normal. Palam registered a minimum of 16.9 degrees Celsius, also two degrees below normal, while the Ridge station recorded 17.7 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees below the seasonal average.

The IMD forecast mainly clear skies during the day on Monday, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 32 degrees Celsius. The outlook for October 20 also indicated mainly clear conditions, with temperatures expected to rise gradually to around 33 degrees Celsius later in the week.

No rainfall was recorded at any of Delhi’s five weather stations during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Monday, according to the weather department.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 118 at 8 am, placing it in the moderate category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The moderate classification indicates that air pollution levels remain a concern, particularly for sensitive individuals.

Under the CPCB’s classification, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51–100 satisfactory, 101–200 moderate, 201–300 poor, 301–400 very poor and 401–500 severe.

The combination of cooler nighttime temperatures, dry weather and moderate air quality marks the latest change in Delhi’s weather conditions as the city moves further into the autumn season.
