Deportation Drive: 50 Bangladeshi Nationals Moved from Tamil Nadu to West Bengal for Repatriation
A group of 50 Bangladeshi nationals has been shifted from Tamil Nadu to West Bengal by train as part of an official deportation process, police said on Saturday.
The group, comprising 44 men and six women , was earlier kept at a special detention facility inside the Attur taluk office complex in Salem district. Acting on deportation orders, authorities moved them under tight security on July 3.
The individuals were first transported in road vehicles from Salem to Tiruchirappalli, before being placed in a specially designated coach on the Howrah Express for the onward journey.
A forty member armed police escort team , led by Salem Armed Reserve Deputy Superintendent of Police Sakthivel, is accompanying the group to ensure security throughout the transit.
Officials said the deportees will be handed over to the Border Security Force at the Haridaspur land border in West Bengal , following which they will be processed for further handover to Bangladeshi authorities.
The Attur special detention camp , set up to temporarily house undocumented foreign nationals, continues to hold more than 130 individuals whose cases are still pending or who are currently out on bail, officials added.
Authorities have maintained that the transfer is part of a structured repatriation procedure carried out under court and administrative directives, with coordination between state police units and central security agencies.
