DGP C.V. Anand Calls for Zero Lapses as Telangana Steps Up Monsoon Preparedness

With the monsoon gaining momentum across Telangana, DGP C.V. Anand has directed the police force and allied agencies to remain on high alert to ensure that heavy rains do not disrupt public life. The state's top police official said the focus must remain on preventing waterlogging, minimizing traffic chaos, and ensuring a swift response to any emergency triggered by adverse weather conditions.

The remarks came during a high-level review meeting convened in line with the directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy , who has been closely monitoring the state's monsoon preparedness following recent episodes of heavy rainfall in Hyderabad.

During the meeting, officials reviewed measures aimed at tackling urban flooding and maintaining smooth traffic movement in vulnerable areas. Anand stressed the importance of identifying potential trouble spots in advance and taking preventive action before heavy rain impacts daily life. He also called for timely dissemination of information on traffic diversions and alternative routes so that commuters can avoid unnecessary delays.

Particular attention is being directed toward low-lying localities , flood-prone stretches, and major traffic corridors that are susceptible to water accumulation during intense spells of rain. The DGP instructed police units to maintain constant surveillance in such areas and ensure that emergency response teams are prepared to act without delay whenever required.

Highlighting the need for a coordinated approach, Anand said effective management of rain-related challenges depends on close cooperation between the Police Department, Irrigation Department, GHMC, HYDRAA, and other civic agencies. He urged departments to work in tandem, quickly identify emerging problems, and implement corrective measures before situations escalate.

"The safety and convenience of citizens must remain the top priority throughout the monsoon season," he said, warning that there should be no room for complacency or negligence in handling weather-related emergencies.

As part of the preparedness exercise, authorities have constituted special engineering teams to conduct field inspections in several flood-vulnerable pockets of Hyderabad, including areas around Khajaguda Lake, Malkam Cheruvu, Mandikunta, Gurunath Cheruvu, Miyapur, Biodiversity Junction, and Kondapur .

These teams will assess drainage connectivity, water flow channels, encroachments, and other factors contributing to recurring waterlogging. Officials said the studies are expected to result in both immediate mitigation measures and long-term solutions aimed at improving the city's resilience to heavy rainfall.

The review assumes significance in the backdrop of the severe traffic congestion and public inconvenience witnessed during the heavy rains that lashed Hyderabad earlier this month. The Chief Minister had subsequently expressed dissatisfaction over the response of certain departments, particularly regarding public alerts and traffic management despite advance weather warnings.

With forecasts indicating the possibility of further spells of rain in the coming weeks, the state government is seeking to strengthen coordination among agencies and ensure a quicker, more effective response on the ground. Authorities say all departments will remain on high alert through the monsoon season to safeguard lives, protect infrastructure, and minimize disruptions to everyday life.
