DGP C.V. Anand Launches Six Digital Initiatives to Modernise Policing
Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand has launched a series of digital initiatives to strengthen policing, improve accountability and make public services more efficient. The six initiatives include the Citizen Feedback Centre, Bharosa software, CID website, Jail Release Monitoring System, Mobile Face Search application and five volumes of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These measures aim to integrate technology into police operations, improve coordination and ensure more transparent and effective service delivery across the state.
The Citizen Feedback Centre will collect opinions from people who have recently accessed police services, including complaint registration, petitions, FIRs, e-challans and passport verification. The feedback will help officials identify shortcomings, assess public satisfaction and introduce changes to improve service quality.
The Bharosa software, developed by the Telangana Police Women Safety Wing, brings all 35 Bharosa centres under a unified digital platform. It enables officials to monitor the assistance provided to victims from their first contact with a centre until the closure of their cases. Information on case registration, counselling, medical care, legal assistance and rehabilitation will be maintained digitally. The system also offers state-wide dashboards and 23 types of reports, replacing conventional paper-based records.
The CID website is another digital initiative aimed at improving access to information and services related to the Criminal Investigation Department. Its launch forms part of the department’s broader efforts to modernise its digital presence and improve public access to relevant information.
To strengthen coordination between the police and prison departments, the Jail Release Monitoring System has been introduced by integrating the National Informatics Centre’s e-Prisons platform with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS). SMS alerts will notify concerned police stations and officials when prisoners are released. Dashboards, AI-based analytics and prisoner search facilities will support intelligence gathering and help identify potential criminal networks.
The Android-based Mobile Face Search application contains a database of more than 9.8 lakh photographs and generates facial matching results in approximately 15 seconds. It is intended to assist officers in identifying suspects, missing persons, deceased individuals and unidentified bodies, supporting faster investigations.
The five-volume Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) cover bodily offences, property crimes, offences against women and children, special laws, local laws and other offences. The guidelines seek to standardise investigative practices, improve case handling and strengthen the prospects of securing convictions.
Together, these six initiatives reflect Telangana Police’s broader push towards technology-enabled policing, with an emphasis on operational efficiency, improved investigations and citizen-focused services.
