DGP of Telangana Urges Maoists to Join the Mainstream
Telangana Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy on Sunday appealed to CPI (Maoist) leaders and cadres living underground to lay down their arms and join the mainstream. He specifically urged the remaining 15 members from Telangana , along with those from other regions, to surrender and lead a peaceful life.
The DGP assured that Maoists who surrendered would receive immediate financial assistance and other benefits under the State government’s ‘Surrender and Rehabilitation’ scheme . He emphasised the need to choose peaceful and constructive paths in keeping with changing times.
He called upon them to recognise the present circumstances, reunite with their families, and contribute positively to Telangana’s development. Over the past two years, 588 Maoist leaders and cadres from various ranks have returned to normal life due to the efforts of the Telangana Police, he said.
All those who surrendered have availed themselves of the benefits under the State government’s rehabilitation policy and are now living safely with their families in their native villages, he added. The positive outcomes of this policy have encouraged underground Maoists from other States to surrender before the Telangana Police, he noted.
The DGP reiterated the appeal made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, stating that several Maoists from other States are showing interest in surrendering in Telangana due to the State police’s attractive rehabilitation policy. He said the government is offering a structured rehabilitation package that includes financial assistance, housing support, skill development training, and employment opportunities to help former cadres reintegrate into society.
Under the surrender and rehabilitation policy, eligible individuals are provided cash incentives based on their rank and involvement , assistance for constructing or purchasing a house, access to government welfare schemes, vocational training, education support for their children, and livelihood assistance to ensure sustainable income generation, along with security protection in select cases to safeguard their safety. The DGP assured that the government would extend full support to ensure that even top leaders still underground return to society and live freely with dignity, reiterating that the government firmly stands by those who choose to give up violence and lead a respectable and lawful life.
