Digital Family Register to Streamline Family Verification in Telangana

In a significant step towards strengthening digital governance and simplifying access to public services, the Telangana government has introduced the Telangana Family Register, a statewide electronic database of household records. Citizens can now obtain a Family Register Certificate through the MeeSeva portal, providing an authenticated record of family details for use while availing government services. The initiative was notified through a government order issued on Monday.

The government said the new system has been designed to address the difficulties citizens often face in producing standardised proof of family composition while applying for various welfare schemes and official services. By maintaining verified family information in a single digital repository, the state aims to improve transparency, reduce paperwork and ensure quicker delivery of citizen services.

Under the initiative, every household will be assigned a unique Family Register Identification Number. The digital register will include the name of the head of the family, details of all family members, their relationship with the family head, age, date of birth, gender, identification particulars and current residential address. The Family Register Certificate issued through MeeSeva will serve as an official record of these details.

The move has received political support, with AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi welcoming the government's decision. In a post on X, he described the rollout as timely, particularly during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Owaisi said he had earlier submitted a representation to the government along with Congress leader Faheem Qureshi, requesting the introduction of the certificate.

He noted that the Family Register Certificate is among the 12 documents accepted for identity verification during the electoral roll revision process. According to Owaisi, the facility will be especially beneficial for economically weaker sections and people who lack conventional documents required for verification after receiving notices from election authorities.

Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Adviser to the Telangana Government on Minority Affairs, also welcomed the initiative, saying it would make family verification for government services more transparent and accessible.

Officials believe the digital Telangana Family Register will become a key component of the state's e-governance framework by creating a reliable, standardised database of household information. Besides reducing the need for repeated submission of family-related documents, the system is expected to improve administrative efficiency and make the delivery of government services faster and more citizen-friendly.
