Dinusha Stands Tall Again as Sri Lanka Hold India for a Draw, Series Ends 1-0

Sonal Dinusha’s remarkable run with the bat continued on Thursday as the Sri Lankan all-rounder struck his third century of the two-Test series to guide the hosts to a hard-fought draw against India in Colombo, while the visitors completed a 1-0 series victory.

After suffering a comprehensive defeat in the opening Test at Galle, Sri Lanka found themselves under immense pressure once again after India posted 503/9 declared and secured a commanding 213-run first-innings lead.

But when India enforced the follow-on on the fourth day, Sri Lanka's batting produced a determined response, led once again by Dinusha.

The 133 not out was his second century of the Colombo Test, having scored 103 in the first innings, while he had also registered a hundred in the series opener at Galle. His remarkable consistency made him Sri Lanka’s standout performer against a strong Indian bowling attack.

Resuming the final day at 229/6, Sri Lanka still had plenty of work to do. Dinusha showed tremendous composure on a fifth-day pitch, finding valuable support from Keshara Nuwantha, who made 46. The pair added 112 runs for the seventh wicket, frustrating India’s hopes of wrapping up the match.

Sri Lanka steadily moved away from danger, and when the match was called off, they had reached 429/9 in 154 overs, stretching their overall lead to 216 runs.

For India, Manav Suthar finished with 3/121 from 41 overs, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed 3/94 from 38.3 overs. Despite their efforts, the Indian attack could not produce the breakthrough required to force victory on the final day.

India’s dominant performance in Galle had already put them in control of the series, and the draw in Colombo ensured they returned home with a 1-0 series win.

Sri Lanka, however, can take heart from their resistance in the second Test. And at the centre of it all was Dinusha, whose extraordinary run of three centuries in two Tests not only frustrated India but also provided one of the biggest highlights of the series.
