Dior Pharmaceuticals Faces FSSAI Action as Regulator Flags Major Food Safety Lapses

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the licence of Dior Pharmaceuticals after finding serious regulatory violations at its nutraceutical manufacturing facility in Punjab. The action comes following an inspection that revealed major deficiencies in the company’s compliance with food safety standards, raising concerns over product quality and consumer safety.

In a statement shared on social media, FSSAI said the manufacturing unit was operating under “severely deficient” Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Hygiene Practices (GHP), and Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS). The regulator termed the violations a significant risk to public health and said the company had failed to meet mandatory requirements under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The suspended FSSAI licence will remain inactive with immediate effect, and Dior Pharmaceuticals has been instructed to stop all manufacturing operations until corrective measures are implemented and compliance is restored to the satisfaction of the regulatory authority. During the inspection, officials identified multiple critical and major non-compliances related to factory infrastructure, sanitation standards, housekeeping practices, pest management, storage and handling procedures, process controls, employee hygiene, water quality monitoring, and maintenance of mandatory records.

FSSAI highlighted that the company showed a serious failure in ensuring the safety, quality, and traceability of its food products, which are key requirements for nutraceutical manufacturers operating in India’s growing health and wellness sector. The regulatory action against Dior Pharmaceuticals is part of FSSAI’s broader enforcement drive aimed at improving compliance across the food and beverage industry. In recent months, the food regulator has taken action against several companies over misleading product claims, improper labelling, and safety-related concerns, particularly in categories such as energy drinks and packaged beverages.

FSSAI has also issued notices to multiple e-commerce platforms over concerns related to food product listings and consumer information. These enforcement measures are based on consumer complaints, routine inspections, and suo motu investigations conducted by food safety authorities.

The latest action underscores the regulator’s increased focus on strengthening food safety compliance and accountability among manufacturers as demand for nutraceutical and wellness products continues to expand in India.
