Indian Army soldiers deployed along the Line of Control (LoC) celebrated Diwali by lighting traditional earthen lamps at forward posts, bringing a touch of warmth and festivity to the challenging conditions of border duty.

Troops stationed in Akhnoor and Nowshera sectors of Jammu and Kashmir marked the festival by placing glowing diyas near border fencing and forward positions. Even as celebrations continued across the country, the soldiers remained stationed at their posts, balancing their festive moments with the responsibility of guarding the nation’s borders.

For many soldiers, the occasion carried an emotional significance as they celebrated thousands of miles away from their homes and loved ones. Sharing his feelings, one soldier said that although he was away from home, he did not feel alone as the Indian Army and his battalion had become his family.

“ Although we are far from our homes today, we are still with our family because the Indian Army and my battalion are our family,” the soldier said.

The celebrations also highlighted the efforts of organisations such as the Panchjanya Foundation, which have been sending sweets to troops deployed at remote border posts, ensuring that soldiers do not miss out entirely on the joy of the festival.

While families across India celebrated Diwali with lights, sweets and gatherings, the soldiers continued their duties in difficult and often isolated locations. For them, the festival was a reminder of camaraderie, sacrifice and the strong bonds they share with fellow personnel.

Their celebrations offered a glimpse into the lives of those who spend important occasions away from their families so that others can celebrate safely at home.
