DMK MLA Anitha R. Radhakrishnan Denied Pre-Arrest Bail by Madras High Court
The Madras High Court on Friday dismissed the anticipatory bail petition filed by DMK MLA Anitha R. Radhakrishnan , who had sought protection from arrest in connection with a case arising from a speech he delivered on June 20 against the ruling TVK government .
Justice G. K. Ilanthiraiyan rejected the plea filed by the Tiruchendur MLA , clearing the way for the investigation to proceed without granting him pre-arrest relief.
In his petition, Radhakrishnan contended that the June 20 public meeting was organized by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) to hear public grievances. He maintained that his speech focused on the concerns of the people and offered a critical assessment of the ruling government's functioning , asserting that his remarks were made in the interest of the state's welfare.
The MLA further argued that the complaint registered against him was driven by political vendetta and amounted to political recrimination . Describing himself as a veteran politician and sitting legislator, he claimed there was no criminal intent behind his speech and sought anticipatory bail to avoid arrest.
The case stems from allegations linked to Radhakrishnan's June 20 address, in which he allegedly made remarks targeting the TVK-led government . Following the complaint, local police initiated action in the matter, prompting the legislator to approach the High Court for pre-arrest protection.
