‘Dorothy’: Karthik Subbaraj's 10th Film Selected for TIFF, Releases September 25
Acclaimed filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj has officially announced his 10th directorial venture, "Dorothy," starring Keerthy Suresh in a pivotal role. The Tamil-language film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 25, 2026, following its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Making the announcement on social media, Karthik Subbaraj described "Dorothy" as a passion project that he had wanted to make for many years. He revealed that the film features Keerthy Suresh, Sananth, and Rishikanth, with legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja composing the music. The director also expressed excitement over the film's selection for its world premiere in the prestigious TIFF Centrepiece section.
In an official statement, Subbaraj said "Dorothy" is a story that has remained close to his heart for a long time. He explained that the film explores friendship, love, identity, caste, masculinity, and compassion through deeply human characters rather than spectacle. While the narrative is rooted in the culture and landscape of Tamil Nadu, he believes its emotions will resonate with audiences worldwide.
Apart from Keerthy Suresh, the film features Sananth and Rishikanth in key roles. Ilaiyaraaja will compose both the songs and the background score, marking his 1,540th film as a composer. Additional details about the project are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
Backed by Jio Studios and Sikhya Entertainment, "Dorothy" is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain in association with Dhammam Films. The film's inclusion in TIFF's Centrepiece section, formerly known as Contemporary World Cinema, places it among a curated lineup of acclaimed international filmmakers and highly anticipated world premieres.
With its emotionally driven story, acclaimed creative team, and prestigious festival debut, "Dorothy" has already generated significant anticipation ahead of its theatrical release on September 25, 2026.
