DRI Officer Alleges Threats from Suspected Smuggler, Man Claiming D-Company Links

A senior officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has alleged that he received threats from a suspected smuggler and another individual claiming links to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company , prompting an investigation by Pune Police.

According to the complaint filed by the Pune-based officer, who holds the rank of assistant director in the DRI , he received a phone call on May 3 from a man identifying himself as Mushtaq Sheikh. The caller initially expressed interest in working as a reporter and sought to speak with the officer.

A few days later, the same individual allegedly contacted the officer again and requested assistance in securing the release of laptops and mobile phones seized by Customs authorities at Mumbai airport while he was returning from Dubai.

The officer refused the request, following which the caller allegedly sent multiple WhatsApp voice messages threatening him and his family members .

In the complaint, the officer stated that the caller claimed to have been involved in smuggling activities for nearly three decades and boasted of connections with criminal elements. The caller allegedly warned that he would " teach a lesson " to the officer and keep track of his family's movements.

The complaint further alleged that on May 6, another person contacted the officer from a different mobile number and claimed to have been associated with Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company syndicate for the past 30 years. The caller also purportedly claimed to have contacts within the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) .

The officer alleged that the threats were directed not only at him and his family but also at the entire DRI Pune Regional Unit .

Police officials said the complaint has been forwarded to the Pune Police's anti-extortion cell , which has initiated an inquiry into the allegations. Further investigation is underway.
