Drug-Free Society Must Be a Collective Mission, Say Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Leaders

Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma? Wait, correction: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla , Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy , and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu have called upon citizens to join hands in building a healthier and drug-free society, stressing that the fight against narcotics is crucial for safeguarding the future of the younger generation.

Marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking , the leaders issued separate messages highlighting the social, economic, and human costs of substance abuse while urging greater public participation in anti-drug efforts.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said drug addiction not only destroys individual lives but also causes deep damage to families and communities. He urged young people to stay away from harmful addictions and adopt healthy lifestyles, calling on every citizen to contribute towards the vision of a “Drug-Free Telangana, Drug-Free India.”

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy warned that narcotics pose a serious threat not only to individuals but also to public order and social stability. He emphasised that vigilance and social responsibility among citizens are essential to curbing the spread of drugs. Encouraging efforts to promote positive thinking and healthy choices among youth, he said society as a whole must play a role in preventing substance abuse.

As part of the observance, a 2K awareness run was organised in Vikarabad district, which was flagged off by Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar .

In Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reiterated his government's commitment to tackling drug trafficking with a firm hand. In a message posted on social media platform X, he said the battle against narcotics is ultimately a fight for the dreams, health, and future of the country's youth.

Naidu asserted that his government remains determined to dismantle drug trafficking networks and ensure that those involved are brought to justice. At the same time, he said individuals struggling with addiction would be provided the support and rehabilitation needed to rebuild their lives.
