A 24-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly hit a traffic constable with his car and dragged him for nearly one kilometre on the bonnet in the Gachibowli area of the city. The shocking incident, which occurred on February 28 , came to light after a video went viral on social media.

According to the police, the accused, allegedly under the influence of alcohol , was driving a luxury car when he first rammed into another vehicle in the Nanakramguda area and fled the spot. Following information received by the control room, an alert was issued to the Gachibowli traffic police.

A traffic constable on duty was instructed to intercept the suspicious vehicle. At a junction, he signalled the driver to stop, and the vehicle initially slowed down. However, as the constable approached the car to ask the driver to step out, the accused suddenly accelerated and sped away. The constable was hit by the vehicle and fell onto the bonnet. Despite this, the driver continued to drive in a zigzag manner for nearly one kilometre, while the constable clung to the bonnet in an attempt to save his life.

Other motorists who witnessed the incident intervened and blocked the car. The accused was then apprehended and handed over to the Gachibowli police.

During a drunk-and-drive test conducted by the police, the accused’s blood alcohol level was recorded at 160 mg/100 ml , which is significantly above the permissible limit. Police registered a case against him and arrested him on Sunday.

The video of the incident has been widely circulated on social media, triggering public outrage.
