Netherlands defender Nathan Aké has brought an end to his successful six year spell with Manchester City , completing a move to Fenerbahce as the Turkish giants intensify their push to reclaim the Turkish Super Lig title after a 13 year wait.

The Istanbul based club confirmed the signing on Friday through its official social media channels. While Fenerbahce did not reveal the transfer fee or the length of Aké's contract, the experienced defender is expected to join the squad after completing a post FIFA World Cup break.

The move sees the 31 year old centre back embark on a fresh challenge after enjoying one of the most successful periods of his career under Pep Guardiola . During his time at Manchester City , Aké helped the English champions dominate domestic football, winning four Premier League titles and playing a key role in the club's historic UEFA Champions League triumph in 2023.

Aké also represented the Netherlands at the ongoing World Cup, featuring in three of the team's four matches. He started in the Round of 32 encounter against Morocco , where the Dutch campaign came to an end following defeat earlier this week.

At Fenerbahce , Aké is expected to add leadership, defensive stability, and valuable European experience to a squad determined to end its lengthy league title drought. The club has been actively strengthening its roster as it prepares for a demanding season on both domestic and continental fronts.

The Dutch defender is also set to reunite with former Manchester City teammate Ederson , who remains with the Brazil squad at the World Cup and is expected to link up with the club after the tournament.

Fenerbahce will begin its UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign on July 21 or 22 , hosting Poland's Górnik Zabrze in the first leg of the second qualifying round before travelling for the return fixture a week later.

With the arrival of an experienced defender who has won major honours at the highest level, Fenerbahce will hope Aké's winning mentality can help the club challenge for silverware and finally bring the Turkish league trophy back to Istanbul.
