

EAM Jaishankar, South Korean FM Hold Talks To Deepen Strategic Partnership In Seoul
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held detailed discussions in Seoul with South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, focusing on deepening the India–South Korea strategic partnership and reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation.
The two ministers held wide-ranging talks covering trade, investment, finance, defence, technology, clean energy, shipbuilding, fintech, startups, culture and people-to-people exchanges . The meeting also reflected a shared interest in expanding the partnership beyond traditional areas into emerging sectors of mutual growth.
Jaishankar noted that the talks were timely, given the rapidly changing global environment , and emphasised that both sides had a responsibility to carry forward the momentum in bilateral relations. He underlined that the full potential of India–Korea ties remains to be realised , and reaffirmed India’s commitment to building a more forward-looking and contemporary partnership .
The discussions also focused on follow-up measures to key outcomes from South Korean President Lee Jae-myung’s state visit to India in April, particularly in the areas of trade, investment and financial cooperation . Both sides agreed on the importance of ensuring swift and effective implementation of the agreements reached during that visit.
In a post on X after the meeting, Jaishankar said the two sides reviewed cooperation across multiple sectors, including political engagement, defence collaboration, shipbuilding, technology and clean energy , along with cultural and people-to-people ties. He also highlighted discussions on startups, fintech and multilateral cooperation , reflecting the growing convergence between the two countries.
South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said the April visit by President Lee marked a turning point in bilateral relations , adding that both sides welcomed progress in strengthening economic and financial cooperation. He also noted initiatives such as Korea Week in India , which aims to address business-related issues faced by Korean companies operating in India, and confirmed plans for a similar engagement for Indian firms in Korea.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments , including the evolving situation in West Asia, and agreed to maintain close coordination on international economic and security challenges. They are scheduled to meet again at the upcoming Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity , where Jaishankar will deliver the keynote address.
