EC Announces Voter Roll Revision in Six States, UTs, Final Electoral Rolls on January 21
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in six states and Union Territories, giving eligible voters an opportunity to enrol themselves and update their details ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
The exercise will cover Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha and Sikkim, along with the Union Territories of Chandigarh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
The revision aims to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral rolls, with particular emphasis on young and first-time voters. It will also allow people who are set to turn 18 and become eligible to vote in 2027 to submit advance applications.
Under the schedule announced by the Commission, the draft electoral rolls will be published on November 30, 2026, allowing voters to check their names and submit claims or objections wherever necessary.
The final electoral rolls will be published on January 21, 2027, following the completion of the revision process.
The Commission has also directed the chief secretaries of the concerned states and Union Territories to ensure that adequate manpower and resources are made available to carry out the exercise smoothly.
The SSR will facilitate advance enrolment applications from individuals who will become eligible to vote on April 1, July 1 and October 1, 2027. This provision is intended to help prospective voters complete the enrolment process without waiting until they turn 18.
The exercise is part of the Election Commission’s efforts to maintain updated electoral rolls and ensure that eligible citizens are not left out of the voting process.
