Ed Sheeran Reveals How Shah Rukh Khan Brought 'Tu Mil Jaaye' Collaboration Together
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed that he wrote and recorded his English verse for 'Tu Mil Jaaye', the first song from Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming film 'King', on the very night he met music composers Sachin-Jigar during his previous visit to India.
The song, featuring vocals by Arijit Singh and Ed Sheeran, was released on November 2, coinciding with Shah Rukh Khan's 61st birthday. The track has been composed by Sachin-Jigar, with Sheeran contributing an English rap, marking his Bollywood debut.
In an Instagram post, Sheeran recalled that Shah Rukh Khan had first suggested that he create a song for the actor's next film, which would also become his first Bollywood project. The singer said their friendship had grown over the years and described Khan as someone he deeply admires.
Sheeran also recalled visiting Khan's Mumbai residence, Mannat, during his previous India trip to shoot a cameo featuring the actor in his 2025 song 'Sapphire'. The music video, which was filmed at various locations across India, also featured Arijit Singh, who lent his vocals to the track.
During that visit, Khan introduced Sheeran to Sachin-Jigar. Following the meeting, Sheeran wrote and recorded his verse for 'Tu Mil Jaaye' that same night. He expressed happiness about collaborating with Arijit Singh and bringing together some of his favourite people on one project.
The collaboration has generated interest as it brings together three prominent names from the international and Indian music industries for Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming film.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, 'King' also stars Deepika Padukone, Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, among others. The action entertainer is produced by Red Chillies Entertainment in association with Marflix Pictures and is scheduled to release in theatres on December 24, 2026.
