The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested eight persons for their alleged links with the Pakistan-based banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) , officials said on Friday.

The accused were apprehended on Thursday from various districts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh during a coordinated operation. According to the ATS, the suspects were allegedly working on behalf of JeM to establish an active terror network in Gujarat .

An ATS official said the arrested individuals were active members of the banned organisation and were involved in efforts to expand its presence in the state. The operation was carried out following intelligence inputs and ongoing surveillance, the official added.

A case has been registered against all eight accused under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967 , and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) .

The ATS has launched a detailed investigation to determine the extent of the alleged network, identify possible associates, and ascertain whether the accused had received logistical or financial support from handlers based across the border.

Officials are also examining digital devices and other materials seized during the operation to uncover any additional links or plans connected to the alleged terror module.
